Also - ich bin einigermaßen stolz

Zum Abschluss der ersten Woche der Toefl-Preperation habe ich meinen ersten Score erhalten 93 von 120 Punkten (95 sind für die Uni Toronto erforderlich) - nachdem ich aber meine Fehler kenne (manche waren schon mehr als unnötig - Konzentrationsmängel) bin ich guten Mutes, diese schon im Laufe der nächsten Woche ausbügeln zu können und weiter zu scoren. Das einzige, was mir wirklich Probleme bereitet sind die Speaking-Questions - also auf Zeitdruck zu irgendeinem Thema Meinungen (und das noch dazu nach einem bestimmten Strukturschema) zu beantworen, würde mir nicht einmal so schnell auf Deutsch gelingen - da muss ich wirklich noch etwas feilen - aber ich habe ja noch etwas Zeit. Aber noch mal - wenn man bedenkt, was Englisch für mich in der Schule bedeutet hat, ist das bis jetzt erreichte schon etwas...

Wieder ein paar Neuigkeiten

Also heute dürfte es kälter sein als bei euch daheim - um die -1° Celsius (wichtig - weil in Kanada auch manchmal mit Fahrenheit gerechnet wird - da wären es +30° - warum das so ist - schlagt selbst im Wikipedia nach) - gestern abend gab's sogar die ersten Schneeflankerl und heute in der Früh sah ich auf einem parkenden Auto ein paar zarte Schneereste.

Gestern erhielt ich den langersehnten Brief aus dem fast hohen Norden - den ersten Adventsonntag bin ich schon draußen in Alberta - dann heißt es sich warm anzuziehen

Erste Hilfe Kurs
Also im Vergleich zu Kanada sind wir eine richtige Erste-Hilfe-Großmacht - also ich muss sagen - very poor. Nicht mal vernünftiges Übungsmaterial haben wir (die Dreiecktücher würde ich höchstens noch als Putzfetzen gebrauchen, und auch sonst sind die gelehrten Maßnahmen eher - na ja sagen wir - jene, die in den 60ern in Österreich unterrichtet worden sein könnten) - und insgesamt ist der Kurs eher sehr theoretisch aufgebaut (alibimäßig müssen wir einen Kreuzerltest machen - aber zur Sicherheit auch nachfragen ob die Antworten stimmen). Dafür, dass das ganze CAD 120,- gekostet hat ... - aber zumindest ist es eine Möglichkeit, ein wenig unter Leute zu kommen.
Randbemerkung: In der zweiten Hälfte sind wir nur noch zu viert - es ist der einzige Abendkurs derzeit im Raum Toronto - 5 000 000 Einwohner!!

Hello everybody ...

... as I told you in the last postings have I achieved to the next level. I decided last week to change to a so called TOEFL-Class. And so I had today my first lessons in this class. Until now I got only little nice paperbacks with about 100 pages full with different exercises which were quite similar to them we have in Austrian English books. But today I got a huge tome with almost exact 700 Pages. And this course is completely different to the courses which I persolved in the last month. Instead of different exercises and sometimes even games are really rather hard and time-limited different tasks to be solved.

For example: You get four scientific texts of about summarized three pages with 10 different multiple-choice questions and you have to finish this in exactly 10 minutes. I'm really proud that I got almost the highest score (but I have to be honest, that most of the matters weren't really unbeknown by me, so I could reconstruct some problems though I didn't read the text very exactly or missed some words. It would have been a bigger problem, if the the text's had been taken out of an economical or iuridical compendium).

Until now I don't know if I will do this test in fact, because it is quite expensive (CAD 185,-), rather challenging - you have to do it through internet and lasts 4 hours with only one brake of 10 minutes after about two hours. After finishing this test you'll get a certificate with your test-score and this score supposed to be over 80% - with this score you will be accepted as student at Toronto University (and I think at other English speaking universities too - except of Harvard, MIT, Stanford, Cambridge, Oxford - for this Universities you have to have a better score, I think - but they have another additionally rules too). So you see there is for me a lot of to do the next four weeks.

Oh - I forgot to tell you, that yesterday I got an e-mail from F. Superior. He told me that he had spoken with Archbishop Petipás from Grouard-MacLennan (you know, he is the bishop with whom I spoke a few weeks ago about to come into his diocese). In the next few days I'll get a letter from him, in which will be written, that he invites me to come to his diocese. I'm really excited and courious about what to do and what my purposes will be.
